Passenger Plane with 49 On Board Goes Missing in Russia’s Far East
A passenger aircraft carrying 49 individuals has gone missing in Russia’s far east, and a search operation is currently underway, according to the regional governor.
Authorities reported that the An-24, operated by Angara Airlines, disappeared from radar while nearing its destination of Tynda, a town in the Amur region near the Chinese border.
Regional governor Vasily Orlov stated that preliminary information indicated 43 passengers, five of whom were children, along with six crew members, were aboard the aircraft.
"All available resources have been mobilized for the search effort," Orlov said in a statement on Telegram.
Earlier reports from emergency services estimated there were around 40 people on the plane.
Russian news agency Interfax cited emergency responders as saying, "The An-24 was on a route from Khabarovsk to Tynda via Blagoveshchensk. It lost communication during its final approach, and there has been no contact since."
