Israeli Citizens Questioned After War Crimes Allegations at Music Festival
Belgian authorities detained and questioned two Israeli citizens who attended an electronic music festival last week following accusations by pro-Palestinian groups that they were involved in war crimes.
Prosecutors stated that they received legal complaints alleging that two Israeli soldiers, accused of “serious violations of international humanitarian law” in Gaza, were seen at the Tomorrowland festival near Antwerp.
The federal prosecutor’s office confirmed that police were asked to locate and interview the individuals named in the complaint. “After questioning, they were released,” the office said in a statement.
Authorities acted upon determining that Belgian courts had jurisdiction over the alleged crimes, even if they occurred outside the country. “No further details will be provided at this stage,” the office added. The identities of the individuals were not disclosed.
Earlier, the Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF), a pro-Palestinian group in Belgium, claimed it had identified two Israeli soldiers “responsible for severe international crimes” in Gaza among the festival attendees.
The group also alleged that a group of young Israeli men were seen waving the flag of the Givati Brigade, an Israeli military unit active in the Palestinian territories.
HRF said it submitted the complaint alongside the Global Legal Action Network, a legal organization focused on human rights violations.
Tomorrowland, one of the world’s largest electronic music festivals, attracts thousands of attendees globally. This year’s event, spanning two weekends, is expected to draw around 400,000 visitors.
