Brief on Ukraine conflict: Villages encompassed as Putin's Belgorod 'health precinct'

On July 23rd, Russia imposed restrictions on access to fourteen border villages in Belgorod region due to intensifying conflict with Ukrainian forces operating in Kharkiv province across the border. These measures were announced by the governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov. President Vladimir Putin initiated a military campaign aimed at establishing a buffer zone along Ukraine's northern border, but it has led to ongoing shelling and drone attacks from Ukrainian forces in Belgorod region, causing numerous casualties.

Russian defense authorities commended the "east" group of forces for capturing Urozhaine village in eastern Donetsk province. The Russian military's claims were not independently verified by Reuters. European Council President Charles Michel criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's comments regarding EU'alignment with Ukraine, stating that the council does not have a mandate to engage on behrances of other member states.

Ten years prior, flight MH17 was tragically shot down by a Russian missile in Ukraine, resulting in the loss of all 298 passengers and crew aboard. The Ukrainian government has entered into an agreement with Czech company Sellier & Bellot to construct an ammunition factory, with plans being finalized during Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal's visit to Prague.

In response to ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine's energy infrastructure, the Ukrainian parliament decided to eliminate taxes and duties on imports of energy-related equipment such as generators, solar panels, and power storage systems. Meanwhile, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania announced their decision to sever ties with Russia's electrical grid by February next year.

On the same day, an International Monetary Fund delegation began discussions with Ukrainian officials concerning a fifth review of the extended fund facility worth $15.6 billion, aiming to secure funds and address the country's budget shortfall for this fiscal year.
