Two British Brothers Drown While Swimming in Spain
Two boys from Britain, ages 11 and 13, lost their lives after encountering difficulties while swimming near a beach in Spain.
Their father, who attempted to save them, survived the incident.
According to Catalonia’s civil protection agency, the boys entered the water in Salou on Tuesday evening but did not return. Emergency responders arrived just before 9 p.m. but were unable to save them.
Sources say the brothers were swimming near rocks approximately 100 meters from shore when strong waves trapped them. Their father went in after them but also required rescue.
A representative from the UK Foreign Office stated, “We are assisting the family of the two children who died in Spain and are coordinating with local officials.”
The incident occurred shortly after a 54-year-old German visitor drowned nearby in Cambrils. Since June 15, a total of 16 swimmers have drowned on Catalan beaches—five more than during the same period last year.
