Reworket's story is a tale of determination and resilience that spans over two decades. From competing with his elder brother Patrice to finally winning an Olympic gold medal at the age of 30 after facing defeat multiple times, Estanguet's journey in canoe slalom has been nothing short of remarkable.
After a disappointing performance in the Beijing Olympics, where he failed to qualify for the final won by his rival Michal Martikán, Estanguet turned to his brother Patrice for guidance and support. With Patrice's help, Estanguet was able to win several championships and eventually an Olympic gold medal at the 2012 Games in London.
In addition to competing as a canoeist, Estanguet pursued sports management studies and became involved with various organizations such as the International Canoe Federation, World Anti-Doping Agency, French National Olympic Committee, and eventually serving on the board of Paris 2024. His experience in elite athletics provided him with essential skills like acknowledging ambition, discipline, responsibility, rigorous training, adaptability to unexpected challenges, teamwork, public speaking, and leadership that he has applied throughout his career in sports administration.
Now, as the Paris 2024 Olympics approach their final week, Estanguet remains hopeful for a successful event, drawing inspiration from previous Olympic Games experiences and symbolic moments like swimming in the clean Seine River with Mayor Anne Hidalgo.
