"Charley Hull pulls out of Evian Championship following on-course collapse"

Charley Hull has pulled out of the Evian Championship after collapsing following a tee shot in her first round. The English player left the course at the French tournament on a medical cart on Thursday morning.

Witnesses reported that Hull sat near a bunker on the 3rd hole, visibly unwell. After a 15-minute break for medical attention, she hit her tee shot on the 4th before falling to the ground.

She subsequently withdrew from the competition, with reports indicating the world No. 19 had been affected by an unspecified illness. Hull's representatives have been asked for further details on her condition.

The 29-year-old had begun her round on the 10th hole in the French mountains and was one under par before the incident occurred.

It is unclear whether Hull will recover in time for the final women’s major of the year, the British Open at Royal Porthcawl starting on 31 July. She is scheduled to compete in the Scottish Open the week before.

Hull has yet to win a major but tied for 12th in her last two appearances. She previously finished in a share of third place at the Evian in 2022.

Leona Maguire scored a 65 to take an early lead, while English amateur Lottie Woad shot a 68, continuing her strong recent performances. Woad can secure an LPGA Tour spot with a top-25 finish in France.
