"Child, two others dead as Russian strike hits Kyiv, ignites government building fire"

Three Killed, Including Infant, in Russian Attacks on Kyiv

An infant was among three people killed in Russian strikes on Kyiv, which also injured 18 and damaged numerous buildings, including a government facility, according to Ukrainian officials.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that a fire erupted at the government building in the city center following an overnight assault involving drones and missile strikes. Witnesses observed thick smoke rising from the structure in the Pecherskyi district.

Klitschko stated on Telegram that the drone strikes claimed the lives of a baby and a young woman, while a pregnant woman was among the five hospitalized. Earlier, he confirmed that an elderly woman had died in a bomb shelter in the Darnytskyi district east of the Dnipro River.

In the Sviatoshynskyi district, emergency officials said several floors of a nine-story apartment block were partly destroyed. The mayor noted that falling drone wreckage also ignited fires in a 16-story residential building and two other structures.

Photos shared online by emergency services showed smoke plumes rising from damaged apartment blocks, some with partially collapsed floors and crumbling facades.

Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, accused Russia of “deliberately attacking civilian sites” in a Telegram post.

Elsewhere, multiple explosions rattled Kremenchuk, disrupting power supplies, Mayor Vitalii Maletskyi reported. Strikes on Kryvyi Rih targeted transportation and city infrastructure but caused no casualties, according to military official Oleksandr Vilkul.

In Odesa, regional governor Oleh Kiper said civilian buildings and apartments sustained damage, with fires breaking out in several blocks. Russian authorities did not immediately respond.

While both sides deny intentionally harming civilians, thousands have died since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

With western Ukraine under continued air threats, Poland deployed its and allied aircraft to monitor airspace security, the country’s armed forces confirmed.
