China Conducts Major Military Exergy Near Taiwan Following President Ma's Independence Anniversary Address

China's military and coast guard have encircled Taiwan’se main island as part of comprehensive maneuvers that they assert are a caution against "Taiwan Independence" movements, following an address by Taiwanese president Lai Ching-te the previous Thursday.

State media reported Monday's activities were connected to President Lai's National Day speech last week in which he stated that China has no legitimate claim over Taiwan but expressed readiness for peaceful engagement with it.

In his address, Senior Captain Li Xi of the Eastern Theatre Command disclosed all branches of Chinese military are converging on Taiwan by sea and air as part of these drills aimed at enhancing combat preparedness against maritime threats, blockading pivotal ports in Taiwan, along with assaults targeting both marine and landfront.

Li noted that the maneuvers were also intended to send a clear message regarding actions by "Taiwan Independence" groups."The drill emphasizes as an intense warning against separatist activities," he added.

Concurrently, China's Coast Guard has announced law enforcement operations circling Taiwan’s main island in adherence with the 'one-China principle', according to illustrations of their pathways which show a comprehensive sweep around Taiwan Island."It is an active measure taken based on legal principles," said Li.

The timing for these maneuvers was not announced, and there were no live fire exercises or air restrictions declared by the PLA at this time. The depiction of maps showed nine zones selected for drill executions that included six large sections close to Taiwan’s key maritime points.

In response, Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council deemed Monday's activities as overt provocations seriously destabilizing regional tranquility and security."These actions serve no constructive purpose in promoting peaceful interaction between China and Taiwan," stated the council through a spokesperson on their National Security Meeting convened by President Lai.

The Biden administration officials have expressed concern about these developments, indicating that they're closely observing while maintaining there is no necessity for such actions after an ordinary speech from president Lai."We advocate the Chinese leadership to demonstrate restraint and refrain further acts which may negatively impact peaceful coexistence across Taiwan Strait and beyond," conveyed state department spokesperson Matthew Miller, referring with initials of China's official name.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping asserts that Taiwan is an integral part of the Chinese territory, urging for a "peaceful reunification". However, overwhelming majority among Taiwanese citizens and their legislative body disagrees on this point. In reaction to these sentiments from China's side have been amplified military preparations including air defense zone intrusion incidents along with advances in cognitive strategies technological warfare tactics as well economic confrontation, paired often with large-scale disinformation drives aimed at Taiwanese people and worldwide audiences. US intelligence posits that China's leadership has mandated the military to be fully prepared for a potential invasion of Taiwan by 2027."

President Lai’s National Day speech was interpreted as measured, with experts suggesting it might signal more explicit stances on cross-strait relations should Beijing choose an aggressive response. The execution plan 'Joint Sword' for that year bore a similar label to previous instances: ‘A suffix indicating subsequent annual iterations.’

These drills codenamed "Joint Sword 2024B" were largely anticipated by observers, following the launch of earlier ones bearing same nomenclature. These exercises have been linked with possible aggressive actions towards Taiwan as per Beijing’s interpretation when faced provocatively."Though these drills demand considerable preparation efforts, they are often in response to certain developments on our part," noted Senior Captain Li Xi of the Eastern Theatre Command during a press brief.

Military experts have repeatedly expressed that with each new set of exer0drillings there is an evident escalation or strategic refinement within China's military strategy towards Taiwan, despite less visible firepower."These activities may indicate potential changes in how we approach these situations," observed Li.
