Conor McGregor Receives 18-Month Suspension for Violating Anti-Doping Policy
Conor McGregor has been suspended for 18 months after failing to comply with the UFC’s anti-doping regulations by missing three scheduled tests in 2024, according to an announcement from Combat Sports Anti-Doping on Tuesday.
“McGregor did not provide biological samples on three separate occasions within a 12-month span in 2024, resulting in a breach of the UFC’s anti-doping rules,” CSAD stated.
The missed tests took place on June 13, September 19, and September 20, 2024, with each incident classified as a whereabouts failure. The suspension is effective from September 20, 2024, and will last until March 20, 2026.
CSAD acknowledged that McGregor was recovering from an injury and not preparing for a fight during the time of the missed tests. The organization also noted his cooperation with the investigation, his acceptance of responsibility, and his provision of details explaining the situation.
Considering these factors, CSAD reduced the usual 24-month penalty for three whereabouts failures by six months. “Even with these considerations, CSAD reiterates that accurate reporting of whereabouts and the ability to conduct surprise tests remain crucial to the integrity of the UFC’s anti-doping efforts.”
McGregor, now 37, has since rejoined the UFC’s testing program and has submitted four samples this year. The former two-division champion has not fought since July 2021. A planned match against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in 2024 was called off after McGregor withdrew due to injury.
