Scientists Discover New Species of Deep-Sea Coral
A team of marine biologists has identified a previously unknown species of coral thriving in the depths of the Pacific Ocean. The discovery was made during a research expedition led by Dr. Elena Martinez of the Oceanic Studies Institute.
The coral, named *Acanthogorgia profunda*, was found at a depth of over 2,000 meters near the Mariana Trench. Its unique structure and vibrant colors differentiate it from known deep-sea corals. Researchers believe it may play a crucial role in supporting deep-sea ecosystems.
"This finding highlights how much we still have to learn about ocean biodiversity," said Dr. Martinez. "Deep-sea organisms like this coral could hold answers to important ecological questions."
The study, published in *CuriosityNews*, details the coral’s biological characteristics and its potential significance. Further exploration is planned to assess the species’ population and habitat.
