Two Foreign Tourists Killed by Elephant in Zambia National Park
Two tourists from the UK and New Zealand died after being attacked by an elephant during a walking safari in a Zambian national park, authorities confirmed.
Robertson Mweemba, the Eastern Province police commissioner, identified the victims as Easton Janet Taylor, 68, from the UK, and Alison Jean Taylor, 67, from New Zealand. The incident occurred when a female elephant with a calf charged at them.
According to police, safari guides accompanying the group tried to stop the elephant by shooting at it. The animal was struck and injured but continued the attack, resulting in the deaths of both women at the scene.
The attack took place in South Luangwa National Park, approximately 600 kilometers (370 miles) east of Lusaka, the capital.
Female elephants are known to be highly protective of their young and may react aggressively if they sense danger.
