Erik Prince Seeks Business Opportunities in Ukraine’s Drone Industry
Amid discussions over potential involvement of U.S. private military firms in post-conflict Ukraine, multiple sources have informed *CuriosityNews* that a well-known and divisive figure from past U.S. military engagements is actively exploring opportunities in the region.
In Kyiv, defense industry insiders report that Erik Prince, founder of the now-defunct security firm Blackwater, has been pursuing business deals and attempting to acquire assets. Sources, who spoke anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the matter, state that Prince has been engaging with key players in Ukraine’s drone sector, aiming to purchase companies.
“Erik is seeking to acquire drone manufacturers,” one source said, while another confirmed his interest in firms with operations in Ukraine. “For Ukrainians, these companies have become strategically important,” the source added.
Prince’s efforts align with recent attempts to mediate negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv last August, though no progress toward a settlement has been made.
Drones have become central to the conflict, responsible for a significant portion of Russian losses, drawing international firms eager to access Ukraine’s battlefield data and advancing drone technologies.
Experts suggest Prince’s involvement is predictable, given his history as a defense contractor with ties to political figures and a record of pursuing lucrative opportunities in conflict zones.
“This doesn’t surprise me,” said a former U.S. special forces operative familiar with Ukraine’s defense sector. “Drones are now essential in private military operations. Without them, firms risk falling behind.”
The era of relying solely on traditional combat skills in private military work “has ended,” he noted, referring to Blackwater’s peak during conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The company faced legal and reputational fallout after a deadly 2007 incident in Baghdad, resulting in investigations and sanctions.
Prince’s interest in Ukraine follows his role in a disputed drone operation in Haiti earlier this year, as well as reports of deploying personnel to the country through his new firm, Vectus Global.
