Ex-Wales scrum-half Rhys Webb Reprimanded with Four-Year Drug Use Prohibition Notice

Former Wales scrum-half Rhys Webb has received a four-year ban after being found guilty of using a prohibited substance. This decision was confirmed by France's national anti-doping agency, AFLD.

The 35-year-old former player joined French team Biarritz last year and tested positive for growth hormone in July. Despite his claims of innocence, subsequent testing of a second sample upheld the initial suspension.

This ban takes effect immediately, ending Webb's professional playing career by 2027 when he will turn 38. It also precludes him from working as a coach or in any administrative role within sports during this time period.

Webb has represented Wales on multiple occasions and was part of the British & Irish Lions squad, but his tenure with Biarritz was short-lived due to the suspension. His career included stints at Bridgend, Aberavon, Ospreys, Toulon, and Bath.

The AFLD's statement clarified that Webb is banned from "participating in any role related to competitions organized by entities adhering to the World Anti-Doping Code or its members."
