Israel's military announced the elimination of Yahya Sinwar, who is regarded as responsible for orchestrating an attack on October 7 in Israel, according to a statement from IDF (Israel Defense Forces).
The announcement followed remarks by Israeli foreign minister, Isaac Katz: “Mass murderer Yahya Sinwar, accountable for the massacre and atrocities of 7 October, was neutralized today by our soldiers.”
In a press conference, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu referred to Sinwar's death as "the commencement of closure," while emphasizing that their mission is not yet accomplished. He urged Israelis: “Challenges persist ahead for us,” adding the necessity to stay resolute and continue defending our territory until conflict resolution.
Netanyahu highlighted, without interruption in efforts – asserting plans to advance into Rafah. The Israeli president also lauded IDF's success against Sinwar; he described him as "the mastermind" behind the 7 October attacks on Israel and for perpetuating acts of terrorism targeting civili0ans over years, aiming at destabilizing Middle East peace efforts (X platform).
Israeli Prime Minister’s office confirmed that no hostages were believed to be present during Sinwar's killing site in Gaza. IDF mentioned the neutralization of three alleged terrorists involved with this operation; some speculated they might have used human shield tactics, as Israel forces sought evasion from their troops (X platform).
US President Joe Biden received briefing while on his journey to Berlin for European leader discussions and was updated about current events during the flight.
