"Far-right Israeli officials and settlers consider upscale 'Gaza Riviera' proposal"

A meeting took place in Israel’s parliament this week involving several far-right politicians and settler representatives to discuss a proposal for the removal of Palestinians from Gaza, followed by the annexation of the territory and its transformation into an advanced urban center for Israeli citizens.

The proposal, referred to as “The master plan for settlement in the Gaza Strip,” outlines the establishment of 850,000 housing units, the development of technologically advanced urban areas with cryptocurrency-based economies, and a metro system spanning the region. The idea draws on a concept previously mentioned by former U.S. President Donald Trump in February, when he suggested turning Gaza into a wealthy coastal destination.

The document, which emphasizes economic advantages for Israel, states: “The right of the people of Israel to settle, develop, and protect this land is not only a historical claim—it is a national and security necessity.”

According to those who reviewed the plan, it would necessitate the forced displacement of Gaza’s current population of roughly two million people. Legal analysts argue that such a large-scale removal would constitute ethnic cleansing.

Michael Sfard, a prominent human rights lawyer in Israel, stated: “This is a blueprint for ethnic cleansing. Under international law, it would qualify as a crime against humanity, given that deportation on any scale is a war crime, while mass expulsion is a crime against humanity.”

The proposal was discussed in the Knesset on Tuesday during an event titled “The riviera in Gaza: from vision to reality.” Among the participants were Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich—one of two Israeli ministers sanctioned by the UK and other nations—and settler activist Daniella Weiss. The conference faced backlash from other political figures, including Gilad Kariv of the Democrats party, who accused Smotrich of advocating for actions considered war crimes.

When contacted by *CuriosityNews*, Weiss stated: “Gazans will not stay. They will relocate elsewhere. We will confront Hamas supporters, but those who wish to live ordinary lives will have to leave Gaza because of the October 7 attack.” She added that Palestinians would be resettled in Egypt and unspecified “African countries.”

Weiss claimed that 1,000 Israeli families had already expressed interest in moving to Gaza once its Palestinian population is displaced. “My vision is to turn [Gaza] into a paradise, into a Singapore,” she said.

Weiss is part of a small but increasingly prominent faction of radical settlers in Israel who advocate for the illegal takeover of Gaza. Their demands to establish Israeli settlements have intensified since the October 2023 attack by Hamas, which resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths, and the subsequent military campaign in Gaza, where over 60,000 have been killed so far.

The conflict has left much of Gaza in ruins, with critical infrastructure destroyed. The proposal aims to construct high-end commercial and residential developments on the remains of Gaza once military operations cease.
