Former NFL star Mark Sanchez sued after confrontation leaves man disfigured

Man Injured in Altercation with Former NFL Player Files Lawsuit

A man injured during a violent encounter with Mark Sanchez has filed a lawsuit against the former NFL quarterback and his employer, Fox Corporation.

Attorneys for Perry Tyler submitted the lawsuit in an Indiana court on Monday, seeking compensation for damages and legal expenses. The filing alleges that the early Saturday morning incident in Indianapolis left Tyler with "severe permanent disfigurement, loss of function," and emotional trauma. Authorities reported that the 69-year-old sustained facial lacerations during the altercation.

Fox Corporation has not yet issued a statement regarding the lawsuit. Lawyers representing Sanchez in his ongoing criminal case have also not responded to the filing.

Sanchez may also face imprisonment in the criminal proceedings. Indiana police have charged him with felony battery, battery causing injury, public intoxication, and unlawfully entering a vehicle. A conviction on the felony battery charge could result in a prison sentence of up to six years.

According to authorities, the incident stemmed from a disagreement over a parking space. Tyler stated that he was collecting used cooking oil at an Indianapolis hotel shortly after midnight on Saturday when Sanchez approached him and attempted to enter his truck. Tyler claimed he feared for his life and used pepper spray in self-defense. When Sanchez allegedly continued advancing, Tyler said he stabbed the former quarterback "two or three times." Sanchez then reportedly threw Tyler against a dumpster before fleeing. Investigators have reviewed video evidence of the confrontation.

"This case involves an altercation over a parking dispute, resulting in severe injuries," said Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears on Monday.

Photos shared online show Tyler with a deep gash on his cheek. Sanchez was hospitalized for stab wounds to his torso.

Sanchez told police he only recalled "grabbing for a window." The 38-year-old was in Indianapolis to cover the Colts-Raiders game for Fox Sports on Sunday and was replaced in the broadcast booth by former quarterback Brady Quinn.

In a statement Monday, Sanchez's brother, Nick, expressed gratitude for the support the family had received. "This has been an extremely difficult time for everyone involved," he said. "Mark is receiving medical care for his injuries and is focused on recovery while the legal process unfolds. We sincerely thank the first responders and medical staff for their efforts."
