Over 100 Aid Groups Warn of Widespread Starvation in Gaza
More than 100 humanitarian organizations issued a warning on Wednesday about the alarming spread of severe hunger in Gaza, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Israel is under increasing international scrutiny due to the dire humanitarian conditions in the Palestinian territory, where over 2 million people are experiencing critical shortages of food and other necessities after 21 months of conflict, which began with an attack by Hamas on Israel.
On Tuesday, the UN reported that Israeli forces had killed more than 1,000 Palestinians attempting to access food aid since late May, when a U.S.- and Israel-supported humanitarian initiative began operating—effectively bypassing established UN-coordinated efforts.
A joint statement signed by 111 organizations, including Doctors Without Borders (MSF), Save the Children, and Oxfam, stated that “our colleagues and those we serve are wasting away.” The groups demanded an immediate negotiated ceasefire, the opening of all land crossings, and unrestricted aid distribution under UN oversight.
Israeli authorities claim that humanitarian aid is being permitted into Gaza but accuse Hamas of worsening civilian suffering by allegedly confiscating and reselling aid at high prices or attacking those waiting for assistance.
The humanitarian organizations noted that warehouses filled with supplies remain stranded just outside, and sometimes within, Gaza, as access for distribution is blocked.
The statement read:
Palestinians are caught in a cycle of hope and despair, waiting for aid and ceasefires, only to find conditions deteriorating further.
The distress is not only physical but psychological. Survival remains an unattainable illusion.
The humanitarian system cannot function on empty assurances. Aid workers need stability, not shifting timelines or unmet political pledges.
Situation Worsens as Humanitarian Crisis Deepens
The Palestine Red Crescent described the conditions in Gaza as “only getting worse,” calling it an “unprecedented humanitarian disaster.”
Spokesperson Nebal Farsakh stated in a video posted on Tuesday that no food, clean water, or medicine had entered Gaza for over four months.
This has led to a crisis where people are literally starving to death. Hospitals are seeing rising cases of malnutrition, particularly among children, pregnant women, and the elderly.
At least 101 people, including 80 children, have died from starvation. The situation continues to deteriorate.
Political Pressure Mounts for Recognition of Palestinian State
Amid growing global condemnation of Israel’s actions, political leaders are urging immediate recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state. Reports indicate that officials have pressed for urgent action in response to the worsening crisis.
