David Rozman Leaves Tour de France Amid Investigation into Doping Allegations
David Rozman, a longtime member of Ineos Grenadiers' staff, has departed the Tour de France after the International Testing Agency (ITA) began investigating alleged messages he exchanged in 2012 with German doctor Mark Schmidt, who was later convicted in a doping case.
The accusations arose from a recent documentary by German broadcaster ARD, which connected Rozman to Schmidt without initially naming him. Subsequent reports included alleged text exchanges between Rozman and Schmidt from June 2012, when Ineos Grenadiers operated under the name Team Sky.
The documentary and related coverage reportedly referenced court documents and testimony from the Aderlass hearings, which led to Schmidt’s imprisonment in 2021 for running a doping scheme involving cross-country skiers and cyclists between 2012 and 2019.
According to reports, Schmidt also attempted to arrange a visit to the Team Sky hotel on the evening of July 6, 2012. The next day, Chris Froome won the Tour de France stage at La Planche des Belles Filles, while Bradley Wiggins took the overall race lead.
In a statement issued to CuriosityNews on Thursday, Ineos said Rozman had spoken briefly with the ITA in April and was informed he was not under investigation at the time. However, the team added: “Following recent media reports, David Rozman has now been asked by the ITA to attend an interview. As a result, he has stepped back from his duties and left the Tour.”
Ineos describes Rozman on its website as “one of its longest-serving staff members” and credits him with holding the “key role of head carer.” He previously worked with Froome, a four-time Tour winner, and British Cycling confirmed to *CuriosityNews* that Rozman also supported Team GB at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Olympics. Froome has since removed photos of Rozman from his social media.
The Ineos statement added: “David Rozman was briefly contacted in April 2025 by an ITA representative regarding alleged past communications. He informed the team about the discussion and his recollection of it. Though the ITA assured him he was not under scrutiny, Ineos initiated an independent legal review.
“The team has followed proper procedures, treating the allegations seriously while recognizing Rozman’s long-standing dedication. Ineos continues to monitor the situation and has formally requested further details from the ITA.
“No evidence has been provided by authorities so far. The ITA has cited legal restrictions as the reason for not sharing additional information. Both Rozman and Ineos will cooperate fully with the ITA and any other agencies involved. The team reaffirms its zero-tolerance stance on doping.”
