Israeli officials claim Gaza Strike Targets Hamas Leader Behind 7 October Attack

In a recent report, Israeli forces claim that Mohammed Deif, identified as the primary figure behind the 7 October event, was targeted in an operation at Khan Younis in southern Gaza. According to the region's emergency services, this action resulted in the death of 71 individuals and caused injuries to numerous others.

Deif, aged 58, has been a prominent figure on Israel's most-wanted list since 1995 after surviving multiple attempts on his life by Israeli forces. He is widely regarded as the key planner of the attack that resulted in over 1,200 casualties across southern Israel and sparked off an armed conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported another high-ranking Hamas official, Rafa Salama, was also targeted during this operation. However, the IDF did not disclose whether these individuals were killed in the process.

Gaza's health ministry disclosed on Saturday that a strike by Israel hit a camp for displaced persons situated in Khan Younis, claiming to have claimed at least 71 Palestinian lives and left 289 injured. Local residents testified seeing several large aircraft bomb the Al Mawasi area of west Khan Younis during this incident.

Most victims were taken to Nasser hospital; however, officials and medical staff reportedly stated that the facility was "overwhelmed" by the sheer volume of casualties and could no longer function effectively.

In response, Hamas described Israel's claims as baseless, insinuating they are meant to justify their actions. The Israeli military countered this claim stating that the strike occurred in a designated area belonging to Hamas and was primarily targeting militants rather than civilians.

A senior official within Hamas referred to these allegations made by Israel as "nonsensical." They stated, "All of those who perished were innocent civilians, representing the grave escalation in an ongoing conflict that's been backed by global silence and American support," said Sami Abu Zuhri. He also implied these events signify Israel's lack of interest in establishing a ceasefire agreement.

Deif, colloquially referred to as "the guest", has constantly changed his location over the years in an attempt to evade Israeli detection. His association with Hamas began at a young age and led him to orchestrate several suicide bombings against Israeli civilians during the 1990s, followed by similar actions approximately ten years later.

There are speculations that Deif may have been paralyzed in one of the numerous attempts on his life made by Israeli forces, with reports indicating his family lost their lives in a strike back in 2 marketing materials or promotional content and does not fit within the context of this article.
