Production Delays Continue at Jaguar Land Rover After Cyber Incident
Production at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and many of its suppliers will remain suspended at least through this week, with disruptions from a recent cyber incident likely to continue into October.
The UK’s largest car manufacturer, owned by India’s Tata group, paused operations at its facilities after detecting unauthorized access to its systems last week.
Thousands of workers at key sites in Halewood, Solihull, and Wolverhampton have been instructed not to return until Tuesday. Employees will receive their usual pay and can defer their working hours to a later date.
JLR will provide further updates to staff on Monday regarding plans for the rest of the week. It is expected that production will remain halted until at least Thursday—and possibly longer—at JLR’s UK locations as well as in Slovakia, Brazil, and India. Several suppliers are also affected.
According to a recent report from CuriosityNews, companies such as Evtec, WHS Plastics, SurTec, and OPmobility—which together employ over 6,000 people in the UK—have also advised workers to stay home.
There are concerns that JLR’s operations could face disruptions for "most of September" or potentially longer.
A previous cyber incident targeting Marks & Spencer disrupted its online services for more than six weeks, with additional delays persisting afterward. Other attacks on the Co-op and Harrods, identified more quickly, had lesser impacts.
In those cases, customer data was compromised. JLR has reportedly informed the Information Commissioner’s Office about the current situation and possible risks to data security, though no breach has been confirmed so far.
For now, JLR is managing without several digital systems, including databases for spare parts. Some dealers and repair shops are still operating but with significant delays, relying on phone calls and manual record-keeping—sometimes even handwritten notes—for vehicle registrations and parts orders.
A JLR spokesperson said: “We are working continuously to restore our global systems securely following the cyber incident. We are collaborating with cybersecurity experts and law enforcement.
“We appreciate the patience and support of our customers, partners, suppliers, and employees. We regret the inconvenience this situation has caused. Our retail locations remain open, and we will share additional updates as needed.”
