Kyiv strikes Russian planes amid Ukrainian missile assault, resulting in fatalities

Ukraine's military announced it targeted four Su-34 aircraft at an airbase in central Russia, located around 900km (550 miles) from the Ukrainian border. The operation involved special operations forces along with security and other branches within their armed services. "According to initial findings, four SU-34 planes were hit," reported on a Friday update via Telegram by Ukraine's defense establishment.

The damage assessment was underway for the site at Marinovka near Volgograd city as per reports from local authorities and governors in surrounding areas involved or affected directly, who underscored its strategic importance given it hosts various servicing facilities critical to Russia’s bombing offensives against Ukrainian territories.

Meanwhile on the ground conflict escalated with multiple incidents across Ukraine's southern regions over three days as per officials in Kherson region where Russian forces carried out an attack, leaving five dead and 25 injured - four severely – following a strike targeted at infrastructure facilities according to regional governor Serhiy Lysak.

In response to Russia’s aggression that caused power cut-offs for some settlements in the Kherson region due to attacks on key energy assets, authorities urged citizens therein and nearby regions bordering warzones where Russian troops had reportedly seized control of a village (Nova Kruhlyakivka) according to unverifiable reports from Russia’s defense ministry.

In Minsk following talks with allies in Belarus about the ongoing hostilities, President Putin voiced skepticism over two failed rounds of discussions between Russian and Ukrainian negotiators aiming for peace since they have proposed seemingly irreconcilable demands according to his perspective. He further criticized what he labeled as "aggressive" pledges by NATO members who are intending on elevating their defense outlays up till 5% of GDP – a move the U.S President has lauded publicly, suggesting it’s an important triumph for Western civilization's collectively reinforced solidarity against external threats and aggression as he expressed his views at Minsk press conference after meeting with Russian counterparts in Belarus where negotiations were ongoing under the auspices of a neutral state.

As Russia readies itself, they have confirmed their willingness to entertain another round of peace talks if required according to Putin’s statements following discussions held at Minsk which also involved representatives from allied nations like Belarus with whom Ukraine has been engaged in diplomatic negotiations seeking a halt on hostilities.
