Trump warns NATO’s outlook could turn “very bad” if American partners do not aid in reopening the Strait of Hormuz

Donald Trump cautioned that NATO may face a grim outlook should U.S. allies not cooperate in restoring traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Financial Times.

In a Sunday interview, the former president said he might postpone his upcoming meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping if Beijing does not assist in clearing the crucial passage, the FT reported.

Trump maintained that Europe and China rely heavily on Persian‑Gulf oil, a dependence the United States does not share. He was quoted as stating:

“It is only fitting that those who benefit from the strait work to prevent any trouble there.

If there is no reply, or a negative one, I believe it will be very bad for NATO’s future.”

Roughly 20 % of global oil normally moves through the waterway, and Iran’s declaration that it will target vessels using the route has effectively halted traffic, pushing crude prices from about $65 a barrel to over $100.

Travelers should contact their airlines for the latest flight information. Further updates will be provided through official channels as soon as possible.”

French president calls Iranian drone attacks “unacceptable”

President Emmanuel Macron said he told Iranian Foreign Minister Masoud Pezeshkian that targeting French interests is “unacceptable” after an Iranian‑made drone killed a French soldier in Iraq’s Kurdistan region.

Macron posted on X following his call with Pezeshkian on Sunday:

“I urged him to end immediately the unacceptable attacks Iran is carrying out against countries in the region, whether directly or through proxies, including in Lebanon and Iraq.

I reminded him that France is acting within a strictly defensive framework aimed at protecting its interests, its regional partners, and freedom of navigation, and that such actions are unacceptable for our country.”
