Lorena Wiebes secured her second straight stage win at the Tour de France Femmes on Tuesday, triumphing in a sprint finish against Marianne Vos in Poitiers.
Wiebes (Team SD Worx-Protime) made her decisive move roughly 250 meters from the line on a short uphill finish, holding off a late challenge from Vos (Visma-Lease a Bike), who retains the overall lead. Ireland’s Lara Gillespie (UAE Team ADQ) took third place in the tightly contested sprint.
The 130.7-kilometer stage from Saumur was mostly flat, keeping the peloton together until the final kilometers when the sprinters battled for victory. Wiebes, who won the previous chaotic stage in Angers, confirmed her strong form with another impressive performance.
The Dutch rider now sits second in the general classification, 12 seconds behind Vos, with Kim Le Court (AG Insurance-Soudal) in third, six seconds further back. Demi Vollering (FDJ-Suez), who crashed heavily on Monday, continued racing after medical checks and currently holds sixth place overall.
The race continues Wednesday with a hilly 168.5-kilometer route from Futuroscope, near Poitiers, to Guéret. The first full mountain stage begins Thursday in Clermont-Ferrand.
