Slovenia Secures First EuroBasket Victory Behind Dončić’s Triple-Double
Luka Dončić delivered a dominant performance with a triple-double, leading Slovenia to an 86-69 win over Belgium on Sunday for their first victory in this year’s EuroBasket.
In Katowice, Poland, Dončić tallied 26 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds—only the fourth triple-double recorded in EuroBasket since 1995.
The Dallas Mavericks star also became the youngest player (26 years, 184 days) to reach 400 EuroBasket points since Tony Parker in 2007 (25 years, 122 days).
Slovenia had previously fallen to Poland and France despite standout efforts from Dončić, who scored 34 and 39 points in those games.
The tournament’s group stage features 24 teams competing across four countries. The top four teams from each group will progress to the knockout phase, beginning 6 September. Slovenia currently sits third in their group and can secure advancement with victories in their upcoming matches against Iceland and Israel.
In other action, Giannis Antetokounmpo returned to contribute 27 points as Greece overpowered Georgia 94-53, maintaining their unbeaten record. The Milwaukee Bucks forward had rested during Greece’s 96-69 win over Cyprus on Saturday, following a 31-point performance against Italy.
