Kindergarten Damaged After Earthquake Near Kamchatka
A kindergarten was damaged following an earthquake off the coast of Kamchatka, according to the regional governor, though no injuries have been reported so far.
Vladimir Solodov advised residents to move inland, calling the earthquake the “strongest in decades” for the region.
A magnitude 8 earthquake struck near Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on Wednesday, prompting tsunami warnings for Pacific islands, Russia, and Japan, as reported by geological authorities.
The quake was shallow and powerful enough to potentially generate large waves.
Areas under possible threat included the Northern Mariana Islands, such as Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan.
