Man held in India for operating phony embassy

Indian Police Arrest Man Accused of Operating Fake Embassy Near Delhi

Indian authorities have detained a man suspected of running a fraudulent embassy from a rented home near Delhi and seized vehicles with counterfeit diplomatic plates.

The individual, identified as Harshvardhan Jain, 47, allegedly posed as an ambassador and deceived people by falsely offering overseas employment opportunities, according to Sushil Ghule, a senior officer from Uttar Pradesh's special task force.

Police stated that Jain falsely represented himself as an adviser or ambassador to unrecognized entities such as "Seborga" and "Westarctica." Officers also recovered altered images of Jain with global leaders, along with forged seals from India's foreign ministry and around 30 other countries.

Jain is also suspected of laundering money through overseas shell companies and faces accusations of forgery, impersonation, and possessing fraudulent documents.

During the raid, officials confiscated four cars with fake diplomatic license plates, approximately 4.5 million Indian rupees (£38,000), and various foreign currencies from Jain’s rented property, which displayed flags of multiple nations.

Attempts to contact Jain or his legal representative were unsuccessful.
