Matt Richardson Ousted from GB Cycling Team Over Misconduct Allegations

Matt Richardson has been removed from the Great Britain cycling team ahead of the upcoming World Cycling Championships in Shanghai due to allegations of misconduct. British Cycling confirmed that the 27-year-old is leaving the team's base in China, though no specific reasons were provided for this decision. The Times reports that Richardson is under investigation by the governing body for misconduct.

A statement from British Cycling reads: “British Cycling can confirm that Matt Richardson has been withdrawn from the Great Britain cycling team squad for the 2026 Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Shanghai, China.”

Previously, Richardson, who transferred allegiance from Australia following the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, was anticipated to compete for three medals in the team sprint, individual sprint, and keirin events. Earlier in the year, he was unable to make his anticipated England debut at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after crashing during a keirin race just before his departure to the event.
