Paris's iconic Moulin Rouge cabaret club celebrated its new set ahead of the Olympic torch's journey past the historic site. The venue, known for the famous can-can dance and featuring a striking red windmill symbol on its façade that recently lost three letters, was revitalized after an incident in April where the windmill sails came crashing down.
The accident, which occurred just before dawn on 25th of April, resulted in parts of the iconic red windmill's design falling off and stirred concerns among Parisians who consider it a beloved landmark. The event didn't lead to any injuries and club officials dismissed the possibility of foul play.
Amidst preparations for the upcoming Olympic Games, starting July 26th, locals and visitors alike gathered outside Moulin Rouge on Friday evening to witness the unveiling of the new windmill sails. The four red sails were artistically adorned with gold accents.
During a captivating performance showcasing traditional French can-can dance by local performers, attendees expressed their delight and connection to Moulin Rouge's heritage. Residents like Nicole Doucin, who has been part of the neighborhood for six decades, eagerly anticipated attending such shows but were often deterred by high costs – a sentiment echoed by Californian visitor Autumn Mannsfeld.
Each year, an estimated 600,000 spectators flock to Moulin Rouge twice daily, reveling in its vibrant atmosphere and rich history situated at Montmartre's foot.
