"One dead, six wounded in stabbing at remote Canadian Indigenous community"

One individual was killed and six others hurt in a stabbing incident in an Indigenous community in central Canada, authorities reported, adding that the suspect also died.

The incident took place in Hollow Water First Nation, a small community roughly 217 kilometers north of Winnipeg, Manitoba, with a population of around 1,000, according to official statements.

Officials confirmed that six people were taken to a medical facility while one did not survive.

"The individual responsible is also no longer alive," authorities stated.

An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the event.

In a separate incident in 2022, eleven people lost their lives and eighteen were injured in another Indigenous community in Saskatchewan.

That case, which occurred in James Smith Cree Nation and the nearby settlement of Weldon, led to a nationwide examination and further discussion on challenges facing Indigenous communities in Canada.
