Owners Arrested After Pet Lion Injures Family in Lahore
Authorities in Lahore reported that the owners of a pet lion that escaped from a residence and attacked a woman and her two children have been detained.
The incident unfolded when the lion jumped over a wall and assaulted the victims in a neighborhood, as seen in footage circulating online.
Police officer Faisal Kamran stated that the woman and her children, aged five and seven, suffered facial and arm injuries on Wednesday night after the animal broke free from its enclosure.
A police report noted that, according to the children’s father, the lion’s owners did nothing to stop the attack as the animal clawed at his family. The lion later went back to the owners’ property before being moved to a wildlife park.
Despite legal restrictions and costly ownership conditions, some affluent individuals in Pakistan keep exotic animals like lions.
In a separate incident in Turkey, a lion that escaped from a park near Antalya was killed after attacking a man, according to officials and news reports.
The lion, identified as Zeus, left its enclosure at the Land of Lions park early in the morning. Authorities stated it then attacked an agricultural worker, Suleiman Kir, who was resting in a pistachio field with his wife.
Kir managed to fight off the lion before it fled. Though injured, he was not severely hurt and was taken to a hospital.
“We were wrapped in blankets to avoid mosquito bites. When I tried to get up, I felt something large—I thought it was a dog,” he told a local outlet.
In an online video, Kir described fighting with the lion. After calling for help, he grabbed the animal’s neck until it retreated. Security personnel later arrived.
Antalya’s governor confirmed that the lion was located and killed, citing the threat to public safety. Officials stated that an inquiry into the incident has begun.
Reports indicate that approximately 30 big cats reside at the Land of Lions park.
