Valentin Paret-Peintre kept his composure under pressure to secure France’s first victory in this edition of the Tour de France after triumphing at the summit of the challenging Mont Ventoux during the 16th stage.

The defending champion, Pogacar, increased his lead by two seconds to 4 minutes and 15 seconds after outperforming the Danish rider in the final uphill stretch.
Germany’s Florian Lipowitz, unable to respond when Vingegaard accelerated with about 9km remaining, held onto third place but now trails by 9 minutes and 3 seconds. He also extended his gap over fourth-placed British rider Oscar Onley to 2 minutes and 1 second.
