Paris 2024 Olympics Bans Chicken Nuggets for Health Reasons

It's a significant shift that will leave Usain Bolt shaking in his tracks - Paris 2024 is set to serve Michelin-starred gourmet meals instead of traditional Olympic fare like chicken nuggets. Olympians residing in the athletes' village can expect an array of plant-based alternatives alongside dishes crafted by renowned four-star chefs, including a delectable croissant with poached egg and artichoke cream, accompanied by hand-scraped sheep’s cheese topped with truffle.

Philipp Würz, Paris 2024's head of food, reveals that the village will feature around 1,200 Michelin-starred meals daily out of a total of 40,000 servings, while also highlighting the plant-based options available. Around 30% of the menu at the Games will offer these healthier alternatives, including soya-based nuggets for those seeking familiar tastes in an innovative format.

The decision to prioritize high-quality cuisine resonates with French organizers' desire to improve upon past events such as the London Olympics, where 20% of athletes' meals were from fast food chains like McDonald's. Würz emphasizes that this new approach caters to an athlete's nutritional needs without sacrificing taste or culinary expertise.

Paris 2024 has constructed a state-of-the-art facility, featuring six "grab and go" zones for convenient snack access, bakery offerings, and signature dishes from Michelin-starred chefs. However, alcohol will not be on the menu due to the village's no-alcohol policy.

Würz further describes how French culinary prowess has been harnessed in a collaborative effort with sports nutritionists to develop menus that cater to athletes from various disciplines, acknowledging differences in appetites and preferences across different teams.

As part of the unique dining experience, an on-site boulangerie will create 800 baguettes per day during the Games, with a large portion of ingredients sourced locally from France for authentic flavors that athletes are not accustomed to in previous editions. Despite some still craving less healthy options after intense competitions, Paris 2024 has made strides towards promoting quality and variety within its dining options.
