The former England captain Andrew Strauss has been approached for potential investment in one of the eight Hundred franchises. Reports suggest that his consultancy firm, TTB Sport Capital, may advise on behalf of prospective bidders from India, the US, and the UK, with a possibility of making an independent bid.
Strauss joined TTB Sport Capital last year to lead its cricket-related investments following his tenure at England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), which included serving as director and holding advisory positions post his distinguished playing career. At the age of 47, he holds executive leadership roles within the company, with a vested interest in their ventures into Hundred franchises due to previous ties with ECB through cricket involvement.
The firm has also invested in padel and Angel City soccer team among other businesses. Strauss's extensive experience as a former Ashes-winning captain adds value to his potential role should he proceed with the investment, given his vast network within English cricket circles.
Prior to becoming an investor, Strauss played 100 Test matches and numerous one-day internationals for England, also serving in various high-ranking roles during his tenure as director of cricket at ECB, including appointing influential coaches such as Trevor Bayliss and Eoin Morgan.
While Strauss has consistently supported the Hundred competition's development, he had previously proposed alternative structures for domestic competitions which were not implemented by counties under the ECB. The current format of eight franchises is being sold to private investors through a three-month auction commencing in September.
The IPL and other cricket entities have shown interest in participating, but valuations remain a concern for potential stakeholders. Strauss has not publicly commented on these developments.
