Pogacar reclaims yellow jersey with stage seven sprint win at Tour de France 2025

Tadej Pogacar Reclaims Yellow Jersey with Stage Seven Victory

Tadej Pogacar regained the yellow jersey after winning stage seven of the Tour de France, overcoming Jonas Vingegaard in a close finish. The defending champion, a three-time Tour winner, secured his second stage victory this year following a 197km ride from Saint-Malo to Mûr-de-Bretagne. He edged out Vingegaard at the summit, while Britain’s Oscar Onley took third.

Mathieu van der Poel had started the day with a narrow one-second lead over Pogacar but finished 22nd in the stage, dropping to fifth overall. Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel now holds second place, 54 seconds behind the Slovenian.

“I’m very pleased with today’s win,” Pogacar said. “We executed our plan almost flawlessly. I heard Joao [Almeida] crashed—I hope he’s alright. If he’s okay, then it’s a great day, and if not, this win is for him.”

“Both Mathieu and I know this finish well—it holds good memories. We likely both wanted to win here, but maybe he pushed too hard yesterday. Today went exactly as I hoped, so I’m thrilled.”

Geraint Thomas, the oldest rider in the race at 39 and competing in his final Tour, was part of a breakaway group of five that attempted an early move. However, they were never given more than about 90 seconds of a lead as the main contenders focused on the demanding final climb.
