Tumaini has also examined the debate surrounding AI:
When Wimbledon officials revealed last year that electronic line-calling would replace line judges for the first time at this year’s tournament, some backlash was expected. Critics could raise concerns over the loss of on-court human presence, while the removal of around 300 line judges would also likely draw objections. However, few could have predicted the level of controversy that has emerged following the system’s introduction at this year’s event.
Electronic line-calling (ELC), which relies on automated ball-tracking technology, has been used in professional tennis since the 2018 Next Gen ATP Finals. The Australian Open became the first major tournament to adopt it in 2020, and this year marks the first time the ATP Tour has implemented ELC at all its events. While other men’s clay-court tournaments use the system, the French Open remains the only Grand Slam still using human line judges.
Instead of being a step forward for Wimbledon, the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) has spent the tournament’s opening days responding to concerns over the technology, which incorporates artificial intelligence.
During the first week, the biggest criticisms came from British top-ranked players Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu after their losses. Both argued that incorrect calls had affected their matches. “It’s disappointing that some calls here have been so wrong, though generally they’ve been acceptable. But I’ve also had a few mistakes in other matches,” Raducanu said.

Here’s Tumaini’s preview of the Norrie vs. Alcaraz match:
Cameron Norrie has stated that he looks forward to facing Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon quarter-finals and will maintain the competitive intensity that has contributed to his success, no matter others’ opinions.
“I’m excited to compete against him, and I’ll need to perform at my highest level—or even better—to have a chance because his game is so varied,” Norrie said. “I’ll have to stay tough and bring more energy to challenge him.”
Norrie secured his quarter-final spot after a grueling five-set win over Chile’s Nicolás Jarry on Sunday. Jarry later expressed frustration over Norrie’s habit of celebrating loudly after points. “He said I was quite vocal, but that’s just how I play,” Norrie responded.
His determination and persistent confidence have been crucial to his career breakthroughs. Still, not all players appreciate this approach.
