Renowned NBA athlete Stephen Curry expressed his support for political candidate Kamala Harris during her presidential campaign. He believes in the potential power of sports and national representation to unite a divided country as it approaches elections.
Stephen Curry, an accomplished basketball player with numerous achievements, recently returned to the US Olympic team after a decade's absence. In his speech at a gathering filled with journalists, he spoke highly about Harris, highlighting their shared background from Oakland and California as well as her longstanding support for Golden State Warriors.
"It is quite an interesting time for our nation," Curry stated to the audience. "The endorsement by President Biden has made Vice-President Harris a strong candidate in this race. With her energy, I hope she brings positive change if she secures the position."
Harris visited Curry and his team during their training camp in Las Vegas earlier that month, forging a friendly connection with the basketball star through their shared San Francisco roots and similar political ideologies.
"She represents our Bay Area," Curry explained. "She has supported us over the years, so I want to return the favor by providing her with my energy as we represent our country."
Curry's influence on national unity through sports was also acknowledged, emphasizing his hope that this spirit will help bring Americans together during these trying times.
Curry has participated in previous World Championship events and is set to make an Olympic comeback against Serbia at the upcoming event. The outcome of another NBA player Kevin Durant's participation in the opening game remains uncertain due to his ongoing calf injury, with his recovery status assessed daily by team doctors.
Curry and Durant are part of a star-studded US men's basketball team that is predicted to secure its fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal. These players have accumulated numerous accolades in their NBA careers, including eight MVP awards among them. The team also includes notable young talents like Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton.
Their pre-Olympic training concluded with a game against Germany at London's O2 Arena before they traveomed onto the Eurostar to Lille for additional practice, followed by their stay in Paris where they will be based throughout the Games. Despite some challenges during warmup games on the exhibition tour, Curry remains confident that his team can handle the pressure and perform well at the Olympics.
He believes that basketball's intensity and demanding nature cannot be compared to a marathon, as there is no room for pacing oneself in such high-stakes competitions. The focus should solely be on every practice session, which contributes significantly to their success during the games.
