A young Chinese national, swimming at a beach in Japan's central Shizuoka region, has been found approximately 80km (50 miles) offshore after being lost for nearly three days. The incident occurred late on Monday evening when the woman was accompanied by a friend while enjoying the water with an inflatable buoy for support.
The following day, at around 7:55pm local time on July 8th, her companion alerted authorities about her disappearance after visiting a nearby store to seek help. The search and rescue operations were promptly initiated by coast guards in the area.
Having been swept away from the shore due to currents while swimming with an inflatable buoy tethered, she drifted off until being sighted at sea on Wednesday morning. A cargo ship located near Boso peninsula's southern tip reported her presence around 7:48am.
Two crew members from a nearby smaller vessel responded by diving into the ocean to assist in the rescue effort. After reaching safety, she was evaluated and found to be dehydrated but not critically ill. Subsequently, she received medical attention at a local hospital where her condition improved without the need for prolonged treatment.
