Tennis and Football Fans Remain Engrossed in Euro Championships Amidst Wimbledon Preparations

With both the Wimbledon Championships and Euro 2024 occurring this summer, fans may have faced a difficult decision regarding which event to follow. However, for those actively participating in the tournaments, their focus has remained firmly on tennis.

Inside the All England Club's player accommodation facilities, football broadcasts were continuously playing during Wimbledon events.

According to former British No 1 Laura Robson, who was scheduled for an invitation doubles match on Wednesday, participants have been requesting to alternate between tennis and football broadcasts on different screens in the player accommodation facility. "We've had 'Can we get the football?' requests on all of our TVs for the last few weeks," Robson told journalists on Tuesday.

Even Wimbledon legends, both past champions and emerging talents, have been unable to concentrate solely on tennis during this period. "Carlos Alcaraz is a devoted supporter of Spain's national football team. Roger Federer watched the Switzerland-England match in his nearby home," Robson added.

After winning their previous game on Tuesday night, Alcaraz arrived late for their postmatch press conference to watch Spain's Euro 2024 kickoff. He expressed excitement about catching a glimpse of Spain's performance before heading back to the event: "I thought I might be able to see some action once my match was over."

When his own game with Tommy Paul seemed increasingly successful, he considered whether he could still watch Spain play on television. With a smile, Alcaraz admitted that time had slipped away from him: "I couldn't quite make it in the nick of time."

Alcaraz mentioned that Spanish footballer Álvaro Morata was also eager to support his compatriot during their respective matches due to scheduling conflicts between tennis and football. "Once I finished my match, Alvaro sent me some photos of Spain playing before their own clash," he said.

The simultaneous occurrence of Wimbledon events and Euro 2024 has caused a stir among fans and even the BBC. The broadcaster engaged in discussions with All England Club officials to address concerns about Andy Murray's farewell match possibly coinciding with Euro 2024 coverage, as well as the general election.

Murray's mixed doubles match with Emma Raducanu was initially scheduled for Saturday evening but eventually took place on Sunday morning due to a change in England's Euro 2024 fixture against Switzerland. The decision helped avoid a potential overlap between two major sporting events.

On Wednesday, the Netherlands will face England in the Euro 2024 semi-final match while tennis fans attending Wimbledon won't be able to see any football games at the event. Officials from All England Club have confirmed that they do not intend to broadcast any matches other than tennis on the tournament grounds.

"Our primary focus is providing an exceptional experience for our visitors and ensuring they can fully enjoy Wimbledon," Michelle Dite, Director of Operations at the All England Club, said in a statement last Tuesday. "For those who remain passionate about supporting England during Euro 2inaspects that may be challenging to witness due to scheduling conflicts, we are more than happy to welcome them for an enjoyable day at Wimbledon."
