An unprecedented riverfront event unfolds along the Seine for the first time outside a stadium: A fleet of barges, carrying approximately 10,500 participants, navigates from Pont d'Austerlitz to Pont d'Iéna at sunset. Directed by esteemed French theatre director Thomas Jolly, this unique endeavor marks an original creation without historical precedent.
During the event, around three thousand performers will showcase a diverse range of dance styles including urban, contemporary, classical, and break-dance techniques. The performance promises to leverage natural sunlight to enhance the visual experience for onlookers along the river banks. Participant Sharlyne Say expresses her excitement at performing in front of an estimated global audience, acknowledging the challenge presented by this outdoor setting.
Participants and performers will be adorned in fashionable attire sourced from high-end brands such as Louis Vuitton and Dior, with professional makeup and hairstyling teams adding to the visual spectacle. Although organizers envision a bold and original display, adjustments have been made along the way due to safety concerns and environmental conditions.
The event has faced several setbacks, leading to modifications in scale and scope; initial designs were abandoned for security reasons or logistical constraints. However, preparations continue with unwavering determination from organizers, who maintain a hopeful stance on the successful execution of this river-based celebration.
While contingencies are being considered, including relocating the event to the Stade de France in response to potential security threats, the commitment remains strong to bring this innovative experience to fruition within Parisian borders. The dedication and optimism of those involved reflect a deep-rooted belief in making history as they chart new territory along the Seine's serene waters.
