Russo Agrees Long-Term Deal with Arsenal Ahead of New Season
Alessia Russo has committed to Arsenal with a new long-term contract. As the team prepares to face London City Lionesses in their Women’s Super League opener at the Emirates Stadium, the club confirmed the forward’s extension, though the exact duration was not revealed.
Russo joined Arsenal in July 2023 from Manchester United after her previous contract ended, following two rejected bids earlier that year. The 26-year-old, who has won European honors at both club and international level, has netted 36 goals in 72 appearances for Arsenal. Her contributions were pivotal in securing the League Cup in 2024 and the Champions League title in May.
Last season, Russo shared the WSL Golden Boot with Khadija Shaw, scoring 12 goals, and was named the Football Writers’ Association’s women’s footballer of the year. Recognized in both the Professional Footballers’ Association and UEFA teams of the year, she is also a contender for the Ballon d’Or.
“Arsenal feels like home,” said Russo. “This club has been special to me since I arrived two years ago. Wearing this shirt is an honor, and it has pushed me to grow as a player. I feel proud to represent this badge.”
Manager Renée Slegers added: “While Alessia’s goals stand out, she offers so much more to our team. She works tirelessly for the group and plays a key role in fostering our culture.”
