U.S Alerts Israel Regarding Possible Suspension of Military Aid in Response to Failure to Provide Assistance for Gaza Humanitarthy efforts

The Biden administration cautions Israel about potential consequences, including possible suspension of US weapon transfers if immediate measures are not taken for increased humanitarian aid entry into Gaza. This warning comes from a jointly written communication by Antony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State, and Lloyd Austin, the Defence Secretary to Benjamin Netanyahu's government. The letter urges easing restrictions on assistance entrance within 30 days or face unspecified policy outcomes under US law.

The four-page correspondence dated October 13 was released publicly via social media by Barak Ravid, an Israeli journalist at Axios after it appeared to be leaked and its authenticity confirmed by a spokesperson for the State Department Matthew Miller during a news briefing on Tuesday.

Miller stated that this letter aimed solely as private diplomatic communication without any influence from upcoming November presidential elections, wherein Arab American voters expressed dissatisfaction with White House support of Israel's actions in Gaza due to potential impacts on Kamala Harris’ chances there against Donald Trump.

According to the documentary letter, it points out delays experienced by US-funded aid at entry gates into Gaza and highlighting a significant drop (more than 50%) since March when Israel pledged for increased deliveries of humanitarian help – which has not been fulfilled. It also raises concern about recent government actions in the region accelerating deterioration conditions there, despite an earlier surge following communications between U.S and Israeli authorities over three months ago (March to June).

The paper further observes that after a brief rise during July-August period – thanks for communication efforts - September witnessed aid flow falling back drastically since the previous October when Israel commenced its large scale military operation against Hamas following an attack causing roughly 1,200 casualties. The Biden administration urges immediate actions from Israeli government to start within a month and sustain – including allowing at least 350 aid trucks daily along with implementing humanitarian pauses for its military activities - reversing the worsening situation in Gaza.

Failure, according to this letter, may trigger implications under National Security Memorandum (NSM-20) and certain U.S laws which outline specific steps if a country getting US defense aid is not honoring prior assurances for delivering humanitarian assistance - including suspending further transfers of military equipment or services as required, based on situation demands.

Congressional Republicans have criticized NSM-20 by calling it redundant and dismissed its objective – to appease critics against security aid provision in the U.S ally Israel — with a separate legislation which forbids providing military assistance or arms sales if there is restriction on humanitarian help entry, violations of rights occur etc., as per Foreign Assistance Act's Section 620I and Leahy Law respectively.

State Department Spokesperson Miller refused to reveal specific consequences Israel might face for not complying with American demands but stressed that past measures like a floating pier initiative (announced by President Biden during his State of the Union address) had shown feasibility in enhancing aid deliveries despite some practical challenges. He mentioned an earlier letter from Secretary Blinken which successfully increased humanitarian flow into Gaza previously, without delving deeper on details about it or its reception within Israeli administrative offices – as per AP reports.

At least six government officials have resigned due to protest over US backing for Israel's military actions in the enclave amidst dissatisfaction towards an administration report that misrepresented aid entrances by stating there were no blockades - further raising awareness about numerous instances of violations from 2020 onwards, but with continued weapon transfers to Israel.

Israel's stance has been frequently ignoring calls for a more moderate conduct in Gaza during the yearlong offensive against Hamas – their stated objective was rooting out its fighters while insisting part of this help could be misused by them, and also claiming to have suffered from looting incidents.
