UK to Reinstate Aid for UN's Palestinian Humanitarian Assistance Programme through Unrwa

Britain plans to resume funding for UN's Palestine relief agency Unrwa, as announced by Foreign Secretary David Lammy. This marks a significant shift from the previous government's position on the Middle East crisis.

Following an independent review carried out in January after allegations involving Unrwa staff and Hamas emerged, the UK will now provide £21m to support food, emergency shelter, and basic services for millions of people living in Gaza and West Bank.

This decision comes amid calls from Labour members, including former Prime Minister Keir Starmer's recent conversations with Israeli and Palestininas leaders. Lammy also highlighted Israel's restrictions on aid entering Gaza as a factor influencing the UK's stance.

In addition to funding Unrwa, Foreign Secretary Lammy refrained from commenting on whether the government would proceed with its previous intentions concerning an international criminal court appeal against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and any future decisions regarding weapons supplies for Israel.
