US and Israel commence strikes on Iran: latest details.

On Saturday morning, the US and Israel launched a series of strikes on Iran.

In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had fired missiles at US military installations in the Gulf.

Explosions were reported in Bahrain, Kuwait, the Arab Emirates and Qatar; officials said one person died from shrapnel of an Iranian missile in the UAE.

The blasts rattled Tehran, where witnesses described smoke rising from the district that contains the presidential palace in the city.

Iran also fired multiple missile salvos toward Israel, and explosions were observed over Jerusalem’s sky. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that its air‑defence systems were engaged to intercept successfully the barrage of missiles launched from Iran.

Israeli officials informed the press that Iranian political and military figures, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, were among those targeted in the recent attacks.

Sources say Khamenei is not in Tehran and has been moved to a secure site, while Iranian outlets indicate that Pezeshkian remains currently unharmed at present.

The US president, Donald Trump, declared that the ongoing campaign against Iran would dismantle its armed forces, halt its nuclear ambitions and lead to a governmental shift. He added that the United States aims to protect its citizens by removing what he described as imminent threats posed by the Iranian regime in the region globally.

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the operation aimed to eliminate a clear existential danger.

Negotiations between the United States and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear program concluded without agreement on Friday, with a suggestion that further talks could resume next week; Trump said he was dissatisfied with the progress of the discussions.
