US Open 2025 – Day 11 Highlights
Several years ago, a tennis coach shared his excitement about a young player with exceptional power and movement, comparing him to legends like Boris Becker and Rafael Nadal when he was just 16.
That player was Felix Auger-Aliassime, who, though immensely talented, has not quite reached the heights many expected. Early weaknesses in his second serve, return, and volleys persisted despite having time to refine them during the pandemic. Now 25, he remains an outstanding competitor, but a Grand Slam title seems increasingly unlikely.
Yet, in his last two matches, Auger-Aliassime convincingly defeated Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev, dropping only one set. Next, he faces Alex de Minaur, a formidable but beatable opponent in the quarterfinals. Though skilled defensively, de Minaur lacks the firepower to overpower opponents. For both, this match represents a rare opportunity that may not come again.
Following them, a highly anticipated showdown between Iga Swiatek and Amanda Anisimova promises intensity. Their previous meeting in a Wimbledon final ended in a crushing defeat for Anisimova, a result that lingered long after. After taking time away for mental health reasons, she returned to the sport and achieved success, only to suffer that devastating loss.
On hard court, Anisimova may fare better. Her aggressive style could trouble Swiatek, who has recently regained her form but still carries the memory of a slump. While Swiatek remains the favorite, Anisimova has the tools to challenge her in what could be an electrifying match.
Play begins at 11:30 a.m. local time.
