"US Open broadcasters instructed to mute booing during Trump's appearance at men’s final"

US Open officials have requested that broadcasters avoid airing any unfavorable crowd responses to Donald Trump during Sunday’s men’s final.

The former president is anticipated to watch the match between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in New York, where security measures have been increased at Flushing Meadows.

Trump was a frequent attendee in past years but has not visited the tournament since 2015, prior to his presidency, when he received audible disapproval from spectators.

A message sent to broadcasters confirms that the 79-year-old will be shown on screen during the national anthem before the match begins.

The notice also states: “We ask all broadcasters to avoid filming any disturbances or reactions related to the former president’s presence in any form.”

Trump’s appearance could shift some attention from Alcaraz and Sinner, who are facing off in their third consecutive major final.

Alcaraz, however, sees the situation positively, stating: “It’s an honor for tournaments when leaders from any country come to support the event, the sport, and the match itself."

“For me, playing in front of him, I’ll try not to focus on that or let it affect me. I don’t want to feel nervous because of it, but I believe it’s beneficial for tennis when leaders attend the final.”
