"US pauses arms deliveries to Ukraine amid concerns over dwindling supplies"

U.S. Temporarily Halts Some Weapon Shipments to Ukraine Amid Stockpile Concerns

The U.S. is delaying certain arms deliveries to Ukraine due to concerns about declining domestic stockpiles, officials stated Tuesday, dealing a setback to the country as it faces escalating Russian attacks.

Certain munitions had been committed to Ukraine under the Biden administration to bolster its defense in the ongoing war, now in its fourth year. The pause aligns with revised priorities under President Donald Trump and follows a Pentagon review of U.S. arms reserves.

“This move prioritizes American interests after evaluating our military support to nations worldwide,” White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said. “The U.S. military’s strength remains unmatched—just ask Iran.” Her remark referenced Trump’s recent order for missile strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.

A U.S. official, speaking anonymously, confirmed the review found insufficient stockpiles for some pledged weapons, leading to suspended shipments. The Defense Department did not specify which arms were affected.

“Our military is at its peak readiness,” spokesperson Sean Parnell stated, noting that a proposed tax and spending bill in Congress would “ensure modernization against future threats.”

The suspension complicates Ukraine’s efforts as Russia intensifies aerial bombardments, further dimming prospects for Trump-backed peace talks, which have stalled.

Politico first reported the halted shipments. Since Russia’s February 2022 invasion, the U.S. has sent Ukraine over $66 billion in military aid.

Washington has repeatedly urged allies to supply Ukraine with air defense systems, but many, especially Eastern European nations wary of Russia, hesitate to part with advanced equipment.

During last week’s NATO summit, Trump discussed potential Patriot missile deliveries with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy but noted competing demands.

“They want Patriots—we’ll see if we can spare any,” Trump said. “Israel also relies on them, and they’re highly effective.” His remarks signaled a shift in U.S. arms allocation policy.
