Utah emergency teams strive to suppress blaze located on slopes overlooking capital city

In Salt Lake City, a brush fire ignited on Saturday afternoon near Utah's state capitol, leading to evacuations for those residing uphill. The blaze had encompassed roughly 200 acres by Sunday as over 100 firefighters endeavored to protect surrounding homes.

Simultaneously in southern California, the Hawarden wildfire escalated on Sunday after having started the previous day. The fire expanded beyond 400 acres and posed a risk to multiple residences, while aerial footage from KABC-TV depicted three properties engulfed by flames.

In northern regions of California's Colusa and Lake counties, residents were instructed to vacate their homes due to the Ridge fire consuming over 4 square miles since its inception on Saturday. The containment level stood at 15% as of Sunday evening.

During a heatwave that swept across much of the Pacific Northwest, Oregon's Durkee County also saw residents evacuated following the expansion of the Durkee fire to over 110,00inas the area on Saturday, amidst red flag conditions characterized by dry climate and strong winds.
