Marianne Vos secured a win on the first stage of the 2025 Tour de France Femmes, also claiming the leader’s yellow jersey after an intense finish in Plumelec.
Vos’s teammate Pauline Ferrand-Prévot appeared poised to take the stage on home ground after launching a late push toward the finish. However, the French rider lost momentum in the final stretch, allowing Vos to pass her while Kim Le Court (AG Insurance-Soudal) nearly snatched both the stage win and the yellow jersey.
“I wasn’t sure if Pauline could hold on, but in the end, I sprinted alongside Kim,” Vos said, acknowledging her teammate’s performance on the challenging 48.9-mile route from Vannes. “I’m thankful to the team and to Pauline,” she added.
Defending champion Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon//SRAM Zondacrypto) finished fourth, 10 seconds behind Vos. Demi Vollering (FDJ-Suez), who narrowly missed last year’s overall title by four seconds, placed fifth in Brittany, 13 seconds off the pace.
Marlen Reusser (Movistar), seen as a potential overall contender, abandoned the race after crashing near the base of the Côte de Cadoudal climb. The Swiss rider, who recently finished second at the Giro d’Italia Women, was among roughly 10 cyclists involved in the incident about 30km from the finish.
Britain’s Pfeiffer Georgi (Picnic-PostNL) took 10th place, 19 seconds behind Vos. The race continues in Brittany on Sunday for the second stage, a hilly 110.4km route from the port city of Brest to Quimper.
