Object Thrown Onto Court During WNBA Game for Second Time This Week
A video showed an object landing out of bounds under a basket after play was stopped during the third quarter of the Golden State Valkyries’ 73-66 win over the Chicago Sky. An official moved it aside before it was retrieved.
“It’s extremely disrespectful,” said Sky center Elizabeth Williams after the game. “I don’t understand the purpose. It’s immature. Whoever is responsible needs to grow up.”
A similar disruption happened earlier in the week during the Valkyries’ 77-75 victory against the Atlanta Dream in Georgia.
“First, it was hazardous,” Valkyries forward Cecilia Zandalasini said afterward. “Once we realized what it was, we ended up laughing. I’ve never seen anything like it. I’m just glad we stayed focused and finished the game.”
New York Liberty forward Isabelle Harrison shared her thoughts on the incidents Friday.
“Arena security? Seriously?” Harrison posted on social media. “This needs to improve. It’s not amusing—never was. Throwing objects onto the court is dangerous.”
