An unidentified individual has reportedly used artificial intelligence to mimic U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, reaching out to at least five high-ranking officials.
According to a State Department document obtained by *CuriosityNews*, the impostor sent fabricated voice messages and written communications designed to replicate Rubio’s speech and writing style. The targets included three foreign ministers, a U.S. governor, and a congressional representative.
The document, dated July 3, stated that the impersonator "left voicemails on Signal for at least two targeted individuals" and sent messages urging others to engage in conversation on the same platform.
Authorities have yet to determine the perpetrator, but the document suggested the scheme aimed to "obtain sensitive information or accounts" belonging to influential officials.
### Former Obama Adviser Issues Warning
David Axelrod, a senior adviser to former President Barack Obama, called the AI-driven impersonation "inevitable" and stressed the need for immediate safeguards against such threats.
"This case, where Rubio’s voice was replicated to deceive officials, underscores the evolving challenges we face," Axelrod stated in a social media post. "We must address these risks quickly to protect democratic institutions."
In unrelated developments, former President Donald Trump is expected to convene with cabinet members later today.
